New Prometheus Funnel System

  • A while back I bought a set of the Extreme Hardcore Gear funnels. Great funnels, worth every penny. Then my Prometheus showed up and I thought "great, I have these awesome funnels, but I simply won't be able to use them." Reason being, the prometheus will dump right into the cases. No problem, but Brand didn't think his .17cal adapter would work very well for me, so I really needed to get another option working for my .17 remington.

I called up Brand and asked if he could send me another RCBS funnel with the magnets installed. I received it in short order and went to work on a system to allow me to use my XHG funnels with my Prometheus. A few hours later and here we are! The funnels just snap in/out of the front, and are held securely in place.

  • Cool, I was wondering about those funnels. I wanted to upgrade my plastic Lee one.

  • Do you have a 3-d printer? looks like that middle piece was printed.

    Very observant. :) Yes, I have a 3d printer.

Those funnels are killer. Just buy one.

I bought all of them. :+1:

  • Boy you have all the neat toys:smiley:

  • I also have those funnels. Great stuff

  • OK, so I'm a perfectionist. Who didn't know that? Well you know now. ;)

The original design I had went through several revisions, and in order for the funnel to be pushed upward hard enough to make a solid seal, the pressure on the tabs holding it in had to be relatively excessive. Even still, when a comfortable medium had been reached, I think that over time the tabs would have broken or become worn which would potentially allow kernels of powder to escape. I threw that design away and went back to the drawing board. The new design is much much better. A nice tension fit, and complete contact. I see no realistic chance of this wearing out or breaking either. :)

  • Looks good. Now you just need to print one out for each funnel size so you don't have to change them out.

Being able to change them out is the entire point of this system. The adapter is glued to the green funnel, then the XHG funnels are attached via the lock ring. So if I want to load 308, I just grab the 30cal funnel and lock it into the prometheus. The funnels are all the exact same size/shape with the exception of the hole and a bit of internal geometry difference.

  • @dddoo7 @tpk936 ... I know you guys wanted these. I have yours done and they'll ship out by weeks end. Remember, you'll need to chop your existing RCBS funnel off and glue this to it. I left the inner diameter of the lock ring a bit small so you could hand fit with sandpaper to your funnels. In my complete set, some funnels were a bit small and I had to use some painters tape on them to get a nice friction fit. So just open up the top side of that inner diameter to function to your liking with your set.

I made some extra if anyone else has a Prometheus that would like to use the hardcore gear funnels.

  • @orkan I got one coming, should be here in may. I’d be interested in this

  • @orkan thank you sir. I had an extra funnel sent directly to you from Brand. Thank You

Well... I forgot all about that. I have the funnel in my hands. :(

The adapter is already on its way to you. How would you like me to proceed?

  • @orkan If you want to cut and set up great and I could send back the adapter or just send me the funnel. Whatever works for you. Thanks

  • @tpk936 We'll cut the funnel and send it on. I'm pretty sure you can handle gluing the pieces together. ;)

  • @orkan sounds good thank you

  • I moved this over from the Prometheus owners thread, figured it fit in better here.

Ok got my area 419 funnel back from my friend. He milled the sides down to 2.775 for me. I glued magnets on it just like the funnel that come with the Promentheus and it works like a champ. I had him mill a third flat spot on it so it would slide in towards the back of the machine, but this isn’t necessary and the funnel works perfectly installed either way. This could have easily been done with a belt sander, or dremel tool at home but wouldn’t have look quite as good.

  • It might be worth mentioning too, that ( I believe) Area419 changed the design of the funnel not long after the initial release to have integral handles on the rim, rather than two tapped holes and a single handle via a separate piece of aluminum (removed in your photo).
Not a big deal and would still appear to work great with the Prometheus, but just a little more grinding/milling required for those looking to buy a current model.
