6br 8 Twist 107 Sierra SMK
-
I am struggling to get this bullet to work. I am using Lapua brass, CCI450 primer,Varget Powder. I am reaching out to see if anyone has some experience with this combo. I was working at .010 0ff . Does this bullet like more jump or should it be jammed. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tom

SMK's tend to be jump tolerant. I would say you should try a different powder. H4350 perhaps? H4895?

While not ideal, RL15 is a pretty common powder to run in the BR's. I'd try H4895 or a different bullet.

I was off today so I went to range. Shot a OCW with the 107 SMK at .025 off. I am using Lapua brass and CCI 450 primers.
The 105 are Barts. Today I shot them jammed same brass and primer. Both with Varget powder. The 107 have something around 29.6 maybe play with seating depth. Any comments are appreciated.

switch powders. If that doesn't show some promise, that bullet just won't work in that rifle.

@orkan maybe I need to switch bullets. My barrel is 24 inch long 8 twist. Should I try a lighter bullet like the Berger 95 VLD ?
-
My 7.75 twist benchmark shoots 95's really well.

@orkan ordered some Berger 95 H VLD. I see your load at 31.2. Where did you start powder wise? My next question is bullet seating. Are they jammed or .010 off lands? Thanks for the help.

I used my 6BR in that article. Should be able to find all the info there. I ended up at .085" off the lands.

@orkan nice write up. A lot of good info. I do most of the items. I use a homemade comparator. I ordered the kit today. This is the first gun I have struggled with to find a load. I guess I have been lucky. I am on a mission now, so I will get it figured out eventually. Thanks for the help. I have done a lot of reading / research.
