.22lr Ammo

  • For those of you who have been shooting .22lr for precision what are you favorite brands of ammo and why?

Anyone use the Norma Match stuff? My local Cabela's stocks it and it's about $50 for a brick. I'm thinking of getting a brick for my Savage MKII.

  • @norcal_in_az
My favorite is Lapua midas plus. Comparable Eley match has too many fliers.
I have tried Norma match in a couple 40xs and a couple martini internationals and wasn't impressed. Groups were just too large. Wayne

  • I'm fairly certain that norma 22lr is re-labelled RWS. A low grade RWS at that. It certainly isn't R50. Prime 22lr is also made by RWS.

  • It is the headstand is RWS.

    22lr ammo is finicky.

I found in my Savage it wasn't worth buying the more expensive stuff because the gun just couldn't shoot consistently enough.

The Norma shot well out of mine.

  • I started using Geco 22lr which is produced by Dynamit Nobel same people that make RWS. Started using when there was no 22lr to be found. It shoots pretty well out of my 40X's. It also shot well out of my Savage MKII. By the way the Savage is for sale see below. Open to offers.

  • The dog is cute, but I'd hardly call him a savage. Why you getting rid of him? Chewing couch cushions?

    :p

  • I use center x (lapua). I did not see an improvement with Midas + in either my lilja barreled cz or my win 52. Center x outshot eley as well for almost half the price.

Thing about the mark II my brother ran into is that he couldn't tell a difference between any match ammo over $7 a box and saw very little improvement over standard velocity. Most mark II's just don't shoot well enough to warrant the top shelf ammo. If you consider that you will be spending as much on a brick as you did the rifle it puts things into prospective.

  • Well if sticking to the cheaper ammo is fine I have no issues doing that.lol

  • @orkan I will never get rid of that dog, it is more reliable / Dependable then that Savage.

  • How difficult is it to ship Ammo?

I've got some Federal Gold Medal Utramatch you can have for the asking if you're interested.

If it's some egregious fee and process of inspection I'd probably ask you to cover that, but if it's the normal shipping I'd cover it. I have to make a trip to the post office in a few days anyway to send my torque driver to DDD007 and I'd be happy to send it to you while I'm there.

Ammo has to be shipped UPS or FEDEX ground. Can't be sent by mail. Wayne

Like Wayne said UPS or FedEx, and it's not super restrictive or anything. I'love gladly take it if you want to get rid of it.

  • @norcal_in_az

Right on man. I'll get your address in a couple days, I won't be able to get it in the mail till after the New Year.
