Well.......

  • .....I bought a Savage rifle. Well more like Santa is bringing a Savage MKII on Christmas Eve. My son has not wanted to shoot his AR since the first trip to the range with it. I think he and I both thought he was ready to move up, and he wasn't. So We decided that like a good American boy, he needs his own .22lr.

We picked up this rifle on sale last weekend.

Now a tip of the hat to Savage. As you can see on the Cabela's site it list that scope bases are included, well they were not. I called Savage to see what the deal was. The customer service rep said no they do not come with them. I said "that fine, you guys sell them right?" "I'll order a set right now". She takes my shipping info, then says I'll send em to you under a warranty issue at no cost. I thought was very nice of her as she didn't need to do it.

So I have the old 3-9x40 Bushnell from the wife's Axis, that will go on it for now. Grandma and Grandpa are sending him a case for it, and I'm going to get him his own bi-pod. Its not the best setup in the world, but for a 9yo he'll be Chris Kyle in his mind, lol.

You better make sure the parallax is adjustable on that scope down to rimfire ranges. Most of those old 3-9's have the parallax set at 150yds. The poor boy won't be able to hit diddly if that's the case!

Yeah I was looking into that. We shoot at 100 yards most often so it shouldn't be to much of an issue. This scope is just going to get him shooting for now. I'm going to get him something with target turrets soon enough.

  • Then it will be a stock, then a trigger upgrade, then the bipod, shooting mat.....
    It is fun.
My son is 21 now and half of the time on my visitation we would go to the local range or bowl.

    Wish I had started sooner.
